Yala becomes the first jewellery company in the UK to achieve B Corp status
In doing so Yala joins a fast-growing movement of over 2,500 companies worldwide who meet rigorous standards of social and environmental performance, accountability and transparency. Companies that have also achieved B Corp Certification include Patagonia, Elvis & Kresse and Warby Parker.
“We believe that profitability and sustainability are not mutually exclusive” said Yala Founder and CEO Audrey Migot-Adholla. “As a start-up, we were determined to achieve B Corp certification early, to create a sustainability roadmap to see us through all our future growth phases, and give our customers and retail partners the peace of mind that we consider all our stakeholders in everything we do. It’s a fantastic badge of credibility to show that we are walking the talk.”
About B Corp
Certified B Corporations are businesses that balance purpose and profit. They are legally required to consider the impact of their decisions on their workers, customers, suppliers, community and on the environment. The status itself is certified by B Lab, the not-for-profit organisation behind the B Corp movement, who are responsible for individually assessing the transparency, accountability and performance of every B Corp.
About Yala Jewellery
Yala is a female-founded jewellery brand, ethically and sustainably made in Kenya by artisans working in the informal sector. The company works with over 150 artisans, including a group of women from the Maasai tribe, ensuring they receive fair wages, safe and healthy work environments, and real recognition for their talent. The small batch collections are collaboratively created with the artisans and designed to have as little environmental impact as possible.
